Botanical Garden

The Botanical garden is maintained by the Tamilnadu horticultural society and covers an area of 22 hectares. It is located on the slope of the Doddabetta peak, The garden has a terraced layout. It ascends the slopes of the hill at an elevation of 2250–2500 meters above Mean Sea Level. The Government Botanical Garden, Udhagamandalm was established in 1848. Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary

Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary is an animal sanctuary in Wayanad,Kerala. It has an extent of 344.44 km2 with four ranges, namely Sulthan Bathery, Muthanga, Kurichiat and Tholpetty. A variety of large wild animals such as Indian bison, elephant, deer and tiger are found there. Established in 1973, the sanctuary is now an integral part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. It is bounded by a protected area network of Nagarhole and Bandipur of Karnataka on the northeast, and on the southeast by Mudumalai. Elephants, tigers, panthers, jungle cats, civet cats, monkeys, wild dogs, bisons, deer, bears, monitor lizards and a variety of snakes are seen. Pookode Lake

Kuruva Island

Kuruvadweep is the only island surrounded with naturally purified water source in Kerala. Edakkal Cave

Edakkal Cave are two natural caves at a remote location at Edakkal, 25 km from Kalpetta in the Wayanad. The name ‘Edakkal’ literally means ‘a stone in between’. Here you can see a cave formed by a heavy boulder straddling a fissure in the rock. The caves contain drawings that range over periods from the Neolithic as early as 5,000 BC to 1,000 BCE. Inside the caves are pictorial writings believed to date to at least 6,000 BCE. The caves were discovered by Fred Fawcett, the then Superintendent of Police of the Malabar district in 1890, during his hunting trip to Wayanad.

Namdroling Nyingmapa Tibetan Monastery (The Golden Temple)

Golden Temple or the Padmasambhava Buddhist Vihara of Coorg is among the must visiting places while visiting Coorg Trip. Located in the Namdroling Nyingmapa Monastery, this temple is the largest Nyingmapa lineage teaching destination in the world. More than 5000 monks and nuns live here. The temple also houses college for Buddhist studies and hospital.

Tala Kaveri

At an altitude of 1350 meters on the eastern slopes of the Brahmagiri peak, Tala Kaveri is the origin of the river Kaveri. A small pond is connected to a small spring called Gundige. This place is considered sacred to those who have to perform last rituals of their deceased parents or spouse. Water from this spring is considered to very holy and pilgrims carry this water home on their return.

Bhagamandala

The temple here is built in Kerala style architecture, and thus has many small shrines to different gods. Bhagamandala is situated at the confluence (Sangam) of two rivers, Kaveri and Kanika. Just like the north India region’s famous Sangam of Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati, where the Saraswati river joins the other two from underground, here, a third river, Sujyothi also does the same. In Sanskrit, this type of confluence is called Triveni, meaning three rivers. Such a confluence is considered very sacred.

Omkareshwar Temple

The Omkareshwara Temple was built by Linga Rajendra the second as an homage to Lord Shiva in the year 1820. The architecture of this temple is interestingly a beautiful combination of Hindu and Mohammedan style. The temple has a central dome while four turrets don the four corners.

According to the locals, the king killed a Brahmin saint to fulfill a political ambition. To repent and appease the deceased’s spirit, the king got this temple constructed. It is said that the spirit haunted the king and this urged him to bring a Shiva Linga from Kashi and install it here.
