The name Udhakamandala is derived from the TODA word “othakal-mund” which means “house in mountains”. Ooty stands at 7,347 feet above sea level in the Nilgiri mountain range. It served as the summer headquarters of the Madras Presidency.

• Botanical Garden

The Botanical garden is maintained by the Tamilnadu horticultural society and covers an area of 22 hectares. It is located on the slope of the Doddabetta peak, The garden has a terraced layout. It ascends the slopes of the hill at an elevation of 2250–2500 meters above Mean Sea Level. The Government Botanical Garden, Udhagamandalm was established in 1848. At the Botanical Garden we can see thousands of species both exotic and indigenous of plants, shrubs, ferns, trees, herbs and bonsai plants. In the center of the Gardens lie a fossilized tree trunk estimated to be 20 million years old. it is one of the undeniable and  most popular places to see in Ooty tour package. The present Botanical Gardens are divided into 6 sections, namely Lower Garden, New Garden, Italian Garden, Conservatory, Fountain Terrace and Nurseries. The flower show conducted here as a part of the Ooty Summer festival is a major attraction. Another popular attraction of Botanical Garden is the Fossil Tree Trunk that is said to be around 20 million years old. The wide variations of plants here are worth exploring.

• Rose Garden

Rose garden in Ooty is one of the important place to visit in Ooty tour package. The world famous Ooty Summer Festival held annually in the Queen of Hills – Ooty during the month of May. The Summer Festival includes flower show and rose show, attracts a huge number of tourists to Ooty. • Doddabetta Peak

Doddabetta is the highest mountain in the Nilgiri Hills at 2,637 meters. There is a reserved forest area around the peak. It is 9 km from Ooty, on the Ooty-Kotagiri Road. • Ooty Lake

One of the most important parts of every Ooty tour package, Ooty  It covers an area of 65 acres. The Boathouse situated by the lake, which offers boating facilities to tourists, Ooty lake is an artificial lake constructed by John Sullivan in 1824, for fishing purposes and for boating. Tourists can be seen enjoying a refreshing ride on its serene waters. There is boating house located near the lake offering a wide array of boats for hire. Cycling by the side of the lake is also worth experiencing. The lake is surrounded by groves of Eucalyptus trees with a railway line running along one shore. • Flower show

The first Flower Show was organized in the year 1896, The flower show attracts about 150,000 tourists each year from all over the world. The flower show is held for two days. About 250 exhibitors participate in different categories on the day of the flower show. At the flower show, more than 50 varieties of plants  ,150 varieties of cut flowers, various kinds of tropical and temperate vegetables and tropical and temperate fruits are exhibited by the competitors. • Pykara River

Pykara is a village situated nearly 19 km away from Ooty Gudalur road. Pykara is one of the important picnic spots in Ooty tour package. This place is ideal to come and relax while admiring the scenic beauty of the waterfall and greenery around. There is a boat house and a restaurant can be found also near the waterfall. The surrounding area is also popular for Toda settlements. The Pykara River is considered very sacred by the Todas. The river in Pykara flows through Murkurti, Pykara and Glenmorgan dams, and reaches the Moyar dam which is located in Masinagudi. • Pykara Boathouse

Boathouse on the Pykara reservoir is an added attraction for tourists. Pykara boasts well-protected, fenced sholas, Toda settlements, large grassy meadows and good wildlife habitat. The Pykara Dam, falls and the reservoir attracts many tourists. • Shooting Spot in Ooty

Shooting point is one of the most popular destinations in Ooty tour packages, it is located 7 km from Ooty. This place is also known as the 9th mile since it is located at a distance of 9 miles from Ooty. It is known for its landscape these days. Many cine shoots have been done here and hence it got its name and popularity. This place highly crowded nowadays. Shooting Spot is one of the best picnic spots in Ooty trip. We need to trek for about 500 meters to reach the top. Here you can use the horse riding activity in the tribal village. Most of the 90s Bollywood movies have been shot here. Lot of Bollywood, Tamil and Malayalam movies were shot across these places. Incredible forest on 1 side and then just plain green grass on the other. The forest is full of pine trees and very surreal. • Annamalai Temple

Annamalai Temple is a situated about 20 km distance from Ooty. This place has grown as a famous temple of Lord Muruga, known as 7th Hill house of the lord. The view from the Temple is really awesome. There is an observatory at the top of the hill for the public to enjoy the magnificent panoramic view.

• Ooty Rose gardens

It is an amazing and very large area garden. You can enjoy varieties of roses there. The roses bloom only for 2-3 months a year (not sure when), so going during the off-season is not very interesting. If interested can buy the seeds and plants also.

• Sims Park (Coonoor)

This is in (Coonoor) which is 32km away from Ooty and usually accessible via toy-train. Similar to ooty botanical garden, very rare plants and trees are present. The park is famous for the fruit show it hosts annually during summer festivals. Some very old and rare trees are found in this garden. Recently some activity is going on to add a small man-made lake/pond to this garden, and add kids’ play area.

• Thread Garden

An exibition of artificial flowers and paintings made from threads. Its collaborative effort of many weavers and brought into the limelight by some NGOs. Its located in front of Ooty Lake.
